A Memorable Farewell
Words cannot begin to express my gratitude for the efforts that went into the events of last weekend.
Friday’s groundbreaking for Harvest Crossing was a roaring success, not only in terms of logistics and turnout (even Habitat was impressed!), but in the spirit of enthusiasm and gratitude. The first to-be homeowners were present and able to share a few emotional words of thanks. Many state and local officials gave kudos to the Harvest Crossing team for their organization, good will, and persistence to bring about the much-needed homes. Town Administrator Brad Holden shared that of the 31 homes that sold in Underhill last year, the average sale price was $621,000. Here’s to broadening opportunities for home ownership in town! NBC 5 covered the event, and a full recording should be coming soon to Mount Mansfield Community Television.
Saturday’s celebration of ministry was such a gift to receive. We are very grateful for the lavish outpouring, including in many of the personal notes left in the baskets. Early on after learning of this move, I thought about writing individual notes to all of you. Though I quickly realized this wouldn’t be possible, the desire remains. Please know that you have shaped my life and our lives in ways no words can express. Yet I will try once more in this coming Sunday’s sermon. :)
Last Sunday’s music-filled worship service and congregational meeting were also noteworthy. Look for updates coming soon from trustees on the amended motion that passed at the special meeting. Going forward, the congregation will be given the opportunity at Annual Meeting to review the trustee’s investments and investing guidelines, while allowing them to make flexible decisions on both during the year.
This will be my final mid-week note, and so I include here an official farewell letter that clarifies the pastoral boundaries I spoke of a few weeks ago. While seeing this in writing can feel a bit clinical, maintaining boundaries will help us all (myself included) move through this transition and prepare for the interim’s arrival. This week’s worship will also include a brief litany that releases us to focus on what lies ahead. The UCC and UMC liturgies are nearly identical for this ritual, which means it must be important! It is my prayer that God will send us all forth with full hearts and a glimpse of possibility.
With love,
Pastor Jen
