Annual Meeting wrap-up and a new look for Sunday
Heartfelt thanks to everyone who pitched in throughout last weekend, both for Rachel Burroughs’ memorial service and for the potluck and Annual Meeting on Sunday. The events provided a welcome that comes both naturally and with much intentional effort at UCU. Those efforts have not gone unnoticed.
The efforts put in ahead of Annual Meeting were also well met. Without much discussion, we successfully adopted reports, a balanced 2025 budget, and the list of nominations for the coming year. We also prayed for and voted to support Tracie Wright in her (continued) role as a certified lay speaker.
More discussion was had around hosting Harvest Market this year. Though there was a clear desire to hold the event, we are still discerning a path forward on leadership, as the chair position is now vacant. In the end, the body voted to form a special ad hoc committee to support the Harvest Marking Steering Committee in finding a new leader or leaders. More about that in the announcements below. The ad hoc and steering committees welcome your prayers, ideas, and leads in this work. And yes, we still plan (and voted) to host Harvest Market in 2025.
This Sunday, you’ll notice that our worship bulletin has a new look. We are streamlining our print materials and adjusting the order of service to simplify weekly prep and highlight what matters most. We’ve added in a “Moment for Mission,” which will give our ongoing outreach efforts a more central place in the service. We’ve also reduced the number of musical pieces slightly, lightening the load for our musicians while highlighting a featured anthem each week. We’ll still do our children’s time, pass the peace, and share prayers as are our beloved traditions. Oh, and yes, there will still be a sermon. :) Thank you for your patience and input as we try a new thing.
There’s plenty going on in the life of the church and beyond. May the words of our mouths, the works of our hands, and the meditations of all our hearts draw us closer to God and neighbor through these days.
