Last Hurrah
As I prepare to head out on leave this Friday, I invite you to join in a "last hurrah" this Thursday evening with my friend and colleague, Rev. John Lucy. The former pastor of Jericho UMC, John has recently released his third book. This one—Seminarians Don't Blow Stuff Up—is about the realities of preparation for pastoral ministry: what it is, and what it isn't. While this book is geared toward those considering that process, John is also seeking to demystify the experience of pastoral training, leading to better understanding between clergy and laity. We'll be serving ice cream under the tent as we greet John and his family to learn more and celebrate the book's release.
John's other two books are 27 Million Revolutions for 27 Million Slaves, which recounts his cross-country bike trip to raise awareness on human trafficking, and Created Human Divinity: A Theology of Empowerment Developed through Dialogue.
It would be lovely to see you there on what should be a cooler evening.
Once more, here is a link to our pastoral care team, should you need immediate assistance beginning Friday. Our Membership & Evangelism team (mande@ucu.church) can also assist with non-emergency needs.
Thank you again for gifting me this time with my family as we transition from summer to fall (and two new schools!). I look forward to continuing our shared ministry in mid September, when I return fully rested and replete with ideas for the year to come. (Right? :))
